The family of 22-year-old Kabirat Sobola, a former student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, are seeking justice after she was found dead in her room on Friday, February 4, 2023. Kabirat, a National Diploma holder, was reportedly murdered in her room in Abeokuta.
The police were notified of the incident after her boyfriend reported her missing when she was not reachable for hours. However, instead of investigating her disappearance, the police detained her boyfriend, who they suspected was involved in her disappearance.
According to a family member who identified herself as Mrs Sobola, when Kabirat was found dead, she was lying on her bed with a deep cut on her neck and chest. There was also a knife beside her, and her phone was missing.
Despite the family’s insistence that there was no reason to suspect Kabirat’s boyfriend, he was arrested and is currently in detention concerning the case. The family has expressed concern that the police neglected important details about the case, such as the missing phone and knife found beside Kabirat’s body.
The family is now demanding justice for Kabirat, with a family member stating, “justice must be done.” They are appealing to the authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that the perpetrator(s) are brought to book.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, adding that the matter has been taken over by the command’s Homicide Section. Oyeyemi noted that the boyfriend was responsible for the murder, and that they had fought before the incident.
The family of Kabirat Sobola is mourning their loss and seeking justice for their loved one. The case is currently ongoing, and it is hoped that justice will be served for Kabirat and her family.
