Emmie Dalton, a brave 29-year-old mother, recently shared her harrowing ordeal involving her abusive ex-boyfriend, Jonathan Hunt. The two met on the dating app Tinder in January 2020, and as the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Hunt moved in with Emmie and her two children.
As Emmie pursued her master’s degree, tensions escalated in the relationship, with Hunt becoming increasingly demanding of her attention. By January 2021, Emmie discovered Hunt’s infidelity, leading to their eventual breakup in October of the same year. Despite the split, they remained friends until a disturbing incident unfolded in July 2022.
After inviting Hunt to her mother’s 50th birthday party, the situation took a dark turn. Following the celebration, Hunt attacked Emmie, dislocating her nose and leaving her scarred for life. Terrified for her safety, Emmie took a courageous step to ensure justice would be served.
In a desperate attempt to leave evidence, Emmie, fearing for her life, wrote Hunt’s name, ‘John,’ on her bedroom wall with her own blood. This chilling act aimed to provide authorities with crucial information in case anything happened to her. During the assault, Emmie managed to escape and sought help from a friend, delaying reporting the incident to the police due to the intense pain she was in.

The next day, upon finding Hunt asleep in her bed, Emmie promptly contacted the authorities, leading to his arrest. Medical examinations revealed severe bruising and a dislocated nose, with the consultant highlighting that Emmie was fortunate to have not lost her left eye during the assault.
In February 2023, Jonathan Hunt admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Subsequently, in August of the same year, he was sentenced to two years and 11 months in prison at Derby Crown Court. The judge took into account Hunt’s extensive criminal history, including 28 previous offenses, some within a domestic context.
Despite the challenges Emmie faced, including the inadequate length of Hunt’s sentence, she remains resilient. She has swapped rooms to escape the haunting reminders but sees the blood-stained wall as a testament to her courage and refusal to let her assailant have the last word.
