Don’t release Nnamdi Kanu – Asari Dokubo tells Tinubu after visit to state house

During a recent visit to the state house in Abuja on June 16, former militant leader Asari Dokubo expressed his views to President Bola Tinubu regarding the highly contentious issue of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is currently standing trial for alleged acts of terrorism. Dokubo firmly urged President Tinubu not to release Kanu, asserting that doing so would be equivalent to rewarding criminal behavior.

Dokubo emphasized that allowing Kanu to walk free would contribute to a culture of impunity. He drew attention to Kanu’s actions during the EndSARS protests, claiming that the IPOB leader had exacerbated tensions by adding fuel to the already volatile situation. Dokubo questioned the consequences of Kanu’s actions and the unfortunate loss of lives that occurred during that period. In his view, Kanu’s actions warranted legal consequences, and he firmly advocated for him to face the full weight of the law.

The former militant leader argued that releasing Nnamdi Kanu would not only condone criminality but also provide a form of recognition and reward for the heinous crimes committed and the lives lost as a result. By facing the legal repercussions of his alleged actions and instigations, Kanu would be held accountable for the consequences of his behavior.

Dokubo’s position underscores the significance of upholding the principles of justice and ensuring that individuals who incite violence or engage in criminal activities are held responsible for their actions. By advocating for Kanu to face the law, Dokubo sends a strong message that criminal behavior should not be overlooked or rewarded, particularly when it leads to the loss of innocent lives.

As the trial of Nnamdi Kanu continues, the debate surrounding his release remains highly contentious, with differing opinions and perspectives on how best to address the situation. The outcome of this trial will undoubtedly shape the trajectory of the Nigerian justice system and its stance on matters pertaining to national security, terrorism, and the rule of law.
