Family of woman allegedly beaten to death in Anambra hotel petitions police

The tragic incident that occurred at Cosmila Hotel in Awka, Anambra State has prompted the family of the deceased woman, Chinyere Awuda, to seek justice by petitioning the police. According to reports from LIB, Chinyere had gone out for a night of clubbing at DFame Nightclub, which was located within Cosmila Hotel, on July 16, 2023. Shockingly, her lifeless body was discovered the following morning in an abandoned swimming pool on the hotel premises.

The circumstances surrounding Chinyere’s death are distressing, as it is alleged that she was mercilessly beaten for supposedly stealing bundles of cash that were being sprayed on a birthday celebrant. The Awuda family, through their lawyer, Eziafa Enwedo of Rigota Chambers, firmly asserted in their petition to the state’s Commissioner of Police that their daughter was a victim of conspiracy and intentional murder.

In their detailed petition, the family specifically pointed fingers at several individuals, including Chinemere Hope Gabriel (also known as Bullion Van), Steven Junior (known as Exclusive), the management of Cosmila Hotel and Suites Ltd, and other individuals who are currently at large. The family expressed their belief that Chinyere’s life was unjustly taken without any intervention from the hotel management or its security personnel, who were present at the nightclub and the hotel at the time of the incident.

The heartbroken family has demanded that the hotel management provide a comprehensive CCTV video recording of the events that unfolded both inside the club, where the alleged beating is said to have originated, and outside, where the fatal incident occurred.

However, in response to the allegations, the hotel released a statement signed by Mr. Stanley Akuneziri, the branch manager in Awka. The statement refutes the claim that Chinyere was beaten to death and subsequently dumped in the swimming pool, as asserted by the family and some media reports. The hotel maintains that it will cooperate with any thorough investigation into the matter, asserting its commitment to acting in the public interest.

As the case gained public attention, the Anambra State Police Command took action and confirmed its awareness of the incident. Four suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident and are currently in police custody.

The entire situation has sent shockwaves through the community, and there is an outcry for justice to be served. The police investigation will play a crucial role in uncovering the truth behind Chinyere Awuda’s untimely demise and holding those responsible accountable for their actions. The grieving family hopes that through the legal process, they will find closure and that their beloved daughter’s memory will be honored. The public, too, eagerly awaits the outcome of the investigation, hoping that justice will prevail in this disturbing case.
