FG will complete Lagos-Ibadan expressway by mid-September – Umahi

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has provided an update on the long-anticipated completion of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a major road project in Nigeria. Umahi revealed that the reconstruction of this crucial and heavily trafficked route is projected to be finalized by mid-September. This comes after years of ongoing work to revamp the expressway.

Umahi shared this information during a visit to various project sites in Lagos State on Tuesday, August 29. The inspection tour encompassed both completed and ongoing Federal Government projects within the state.

Commencing at the outer Marina Road located in Victoria Island, Umahi’s tour showcased projects that had been constructed utilizing the SUKUK financing mechanism by the Federal Government. From there, the Minister moved on to assess the recently rehabilitated Eko Bridge, a vital infrastructure link in the region. The tour extended to other key areas including Ijora Olopa, the Lagoon section of Eko Bridge, and Apapa.

Throughout the tour, Umahi engaged with officials from the Ministry of Works and Housing, as well as the contractors responsible for the various projects along this axis. These interactions allowed him to gain firsthand insights into the progress of each initiative and to address any pertinent concerns.

In a broader context, the Ministry of Works and Housing has released a scorecard detailing its achievements during the period between 2016 and 2022. According to this report, an impressive total of 8,352.94 kilometers of roads have been constructed or rehabilitated. This highlights the commitment of the Nigerian government to improving the nation’s infrastructure, thereby enhancing connectivity and facilitating smoother transportation across the country.

The imminent completion of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is significant not only due to its critical importance as a major transportation route but also as a symbol of progress and development. The realization of this project demonstrates the government’s dedication to addressing infrastructure needs and contributing to the betterment of citizens’ lives.

As the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway nears completion, it marks a milestone in the journey to enhance connectivity and mobility within Nigeria. The efforts invested in this project are expected to have a positive ripple effect on economic activities, travel convenience, and overall national development.
