We Regret Making Peter Obi Our Presidential Candidate

Labour party : We Regret Making Peter Obi Our Presidential Candidate

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party, under the leadership of Lamidi Apapa, extended heartfelt felicitations to Peter Obi on the momentous occasion of his 62nd birthday. They acknowledged his popularity and the representation he brought to the citizens, attributing it to the love people have for the Labour Party.

However, amidst the birthday celebrations, a surprising twist emerged when the NWC expressed regret over their decision to field Peter Obi as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election. This sentiment arose due to perceived actions taken by Obi, which the faction believed undermined the party’s long-standing discipline and inclusive ethos.

In a statement released by Comrade Abayomi Arabambi, the Suspended National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, the NWC voiced concerns about Peter Obi’s alignment with a specific faction within the party rather than representing the diverse interests present. They urged Obi to reflect on his role as a statesman and stressed the importance of embracing the collective interests of Nigerians, transcending regional and ethnic divisions.

The faction pointed out a particular incident that they found regrettable and laughable. It was when Obi, as a non-member of the Labour Party, approached the Presidential Electoral Tribunal and relied on a “non-party agent” to defend his alleged stolen mandate. Such actions were perceived by the NWC as contradictory to the principles and values upheld by the Labour Party.

While celebrating Obi’s birthday, the NWC emphasized that they were taking this opportunity to express their regrets about the choice of a presidential candidate and asserted that such a decision would not be repeated in the future. They hoped that this occasion would prompt Peter Obi to contemplate his position as a statesman and understand the responsibilities that come with it.

The faction underlined the significance of Peter Obi’s role in representing the collective interests of Nigerians, which is far more crucial than aligning with any specific faction within the party. They reminded him that his popularity was a result of the love people have for the Labour Party and the ideals it stands for.

the NWC wished Peter Obi well on his 62nd birthday but also conveyed their regret for having fielded him as the party’s presidential candidate. The statement served as a call for introspection, urging Obi to rise above regional biases and embrace an inclusive approach to governance that serves the greater good of all Nigerians. The Labour Party sought to reaffirm its commitment to the principles of discipline and unity, hoping to move forward as a stronger and more united political force.
