Unveiling Denise Huskins’ abduction tale in new documentary

The captivating and harrowing true-life tale of Denise Huskins unfolds in a gripping documentary, offering intricate details of her abduction and a glimpse into her personal life. Denise, a qualified physical therapist, faced a nightmarish kidnapping incident in 2015 that garnered global attention.

The incident took place in Vallejo, California, where a masked intruder forcibly entered her home, taking her hostage and demanding a ransom from her boyfriend, Aaron Quinn. Matthew Muller, the assailant, subjected Denise to 48 hours of unspeakable physical and sexual abuse before inexplicably releasing her in her hometown of Huntington Beach, California.

To the astonishment of many, the Vallejo police accused Denise of orchestrating a hoax abduction, drawing parallels to the film “Gone Girl.” This false accusation plunged Denise and Aaron into a relentless battle to clear their names, not only against Muller but also against the police who defamed them.

Born on February 17, 1987, in Huntington Beach, Denise Huskins excelled academically, graduating from Edison High School in 2005. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton, in 2009, followed by a doctorate in physical therapy from Chapman University in 2012. Her professional journey led her to Vallejo in 2014, where she joined Kaiser Permanente as a physical therapist.

In the distressing events of 2015, Denise and Aaron, both physical therapists, fell victim to a horrifying kidnapping. Awakened by an intruder in a scuba suit making ransom demands, they were bound and blindfolded, with Quinn warned not to involve the police under threat. Despite Quinn reaching out to the FBI, the Vallejo police shockingly accused him of concocting a hoax.

Matthew Muller continued to torment Denise while she was held captive, inflicting repeated abuse and threats. Upon her release, Muller bizarrely claimed gang involvement and apologized via email, but the police dismissed it outright.

Denise Huskins married Aaron Quinn on April 15, 2018, in Dana Point, California, inviting their lawyers and the detective who helped solve their case to share in their celebration. The couple, grappling with post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, and insomnia, co-authored a book titled “Victim F: From Crime Victims To Suspects To Survivors,” published in June 2021.

Fighting back against the injustice, Denise and Aaron took legal action against the Vallejo police, alleging civil rights violations, emotional distress, and false statements. They embarked on a journey of therapy and counseling to heal from their traumatic ordeal, focusing on rebuilding trust.

Their engagement in November 2016 at Disneyland marked a symbolic triumph over adversity. On March 25, 2020, they welcomed their daughter, Olivia Quinn Huskins, exactly five years after Denise’s release from Muller’s captivity. The family, including their dog Stitch, currently resides in Huntington Beach, California, where Denise and Aaron continue their work as physical therapists and advocate passionately for victims of sexual assault and police misconduct.

As of January 2024, Denise Huskins’s net worth is estimated to be around $1 million, accumulated through her career as a physical therapist and book sales. Additionally, she received a settlement from the Vallejo police for defamation of character. In 2018, a $2.5 million settlement was reached, accompanied by a public apology acknowledging Denise and Aaron as victims of a violent crime. Despite the monetary compensation, they stress that it cannot erase their trauma or fully restore their reputation, hoping their case serves as a reminder to law enforcement to treat victims with respect and dignity.
