VIDEO : Osun Lawmaker Who Was Caught Bathing In A Market Engaged In The Act
A viral video depicting Timothy Owoeye, a lawmaker from Osun State in Nigeria, purportedly bathing in a market square for a ritual has gained attention. However, the police clarified that Owoeye was a victim of a ritual syndicate that had operated in the state for a long time. The video was part of a high-wire blackmail scheme aimed at tarnishing his image and preventing him from reporting the fraud publicly.
Owoeye, the House Majority Leader of Osun State House of Assembly, had fallen prey to fraudsters posing as herbalists offering to enhance his political success through traditional means. The fraudsters tricked him into a compromising situation, which they recorded and later blackmailed him with the threat of exposing the video unless he met their demands for cash.

Over a span of six months, Owoeye paid significant amounts, including selling a filling station and paying over 40 million Naira to the fraudsters. Eventually, with the support of an associate, he reported the crime to the police, leading to the arrest and charging of some suspects. The police have already recovered 10 million Naira of the funds Owoeye was swindled out of.
Ritual prayer scams orchestrated by fake herbalists are unfortunately prevalent in Nigeria, causing citizens to lose substantial amounts of money. The police are continuously working to combat these schemes and dismantle the syndicates involved.
