Woman admits to shooting boyfriend dead over ‘rough s3x’

In a tragic and deeply distressing incident, a South African woman, 28-year-old Zanele Mkhonto, has admitted to the premeditated murder of her boyfriend, police officer Happy Thwala (45). This horrifying crime took place on the night of August 2, 2022, in Gedlembane, Pienaar, Mpumalanga, and it has sent shockwaves through the community.

The National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, revealed that the fatal chain of events began with a heated argument between the couple. The altercation was triggered when Zanele’s ex-boyfriend called her, leading to a dispute between her and Happy Thwala. The situation escalated to the point where Thwala threatened to shoot and kill Zanele, and she managed to calm him down. Tragically, this dispute ultimately led to a fatal outcome.

After the couple reconciled, they engaged in s3xual intercourse, during which Thwala’s actions became aggressive and caused harm to Zanele. She suffered silently until their intimate encounter concluded. When Thwala fell asleep afterward, Zanele, who had been deeply enraged by the violence she endured during s3x, took decisive and horrifying action. She retrieved a firearm and shot her boyfriend dead while he slept.

The investigation into this shocking crime was taken up by the Hawks Serious Organized Crime Investigation in Nelspruit, leading to the arrest of Zanele Mkhonto on August 10, 2022. She made an initial appearance at the Kanyamazane Magistrates Court and was held in custody. Despite her receiving legal aid, bail requests were denied by the Magistrates Court, and she has been detained since.

The case has now been postponed to November 27, 2023, for a pre-sentence report in the High Court. This deeply troubling incident serves as a somber reminder of the complexities of human emotions and relationships, as well as the devastating consequences that can result from unaddressed conflicts and violence.
